About Meanwhile Gardens

The Garden comprises 4.5 acres, run by the Meanwhile Gardens Community Association, with a boundary running along the Grand Union Canal. Kensal Road, the Cobden Club and Great Western Road, W10.

The factory building, located inside the Gardens next to Cobden Club, at the heart of our campaign, is currently used for offices and steel band rehearsals, and the is the site the Council wants to build luxury flats on.

Kensington & Chelsea MIND and Metronome Steel Band also operate from this building. MIND runs various therapeutic gardening courses at Meanwhile Gardens for people with disabilities, their users built the Scented Garden, located on the development site, and they also manage the Wildlife Garden.

During the 1999-2001 battle, the Council's Planning Committee rejected the house building application on 28th November 2000, although it was supported by the Leader of the Council and publicly supported by the Chair & Vice-Chair of the Planning Committee.

The developers then appealed the decision, and a 5 day Public Inquiry was held in April and May 2001. After hearing all of the evidence, the Inquiry inspector rejected the appeal. So, here we are again, fighting the same battle in 2007.
